This is contemporary, flame-worked art at its most enchanting. Created by a process known as lampworking in which each individual handmade item is created by melting rods of clear and coloured glass by gas-fuelled torch (the modern-day replacement for the oil-fuelled lamp) and then blowing and shaping the molten glass with tools and hand movements to create the mini-masterpiece you see here. Inspired by the ornate and very distinctive shield-shaped crosses of the Court of Queen Elizabeth I, this particular version features a stunning mixture of colours taken from the green palette, mixed with blues and touches of gold. All threaded on a matching multi-strand silk & organza necklace. Size: Cross: approx 4cm (1½") x 7cm (2¼") x1cm (½") Weight: About 16 gm Necklace: 46cm (18") + 5cm (2") extension.
